Black Tai people in Laos

Black Tai (Tai Dam) people is a ethnic tribe who live in northern Laos and Viet Nam. They are called black tai because of the color of their traditional clothes they wear.

Their life style is based on the natural phonomenon and they used to start cultivating when the buds in the forest start to come out. Their traditional calendar is based on the moon phase. The year starts from autumn according to their calendar. When they choose an important day such as wedding day or a day to start building a house, they consult with Po mu who is in charge of caculaing the traditional calendar as it is very complicated.

I really like the Tai Dam people's textile since I encontered them in Vientiane, the capital Laos.
