Echizen-ware ceramic - one of six ancient kilns of Japan
Echizen-ware originated about 850 years ago in the current Fukui Prefecture, Japan. The clay with high iron content comes from the town of Echizen.
The color varies from black-grey color to reddish brown with yellowish-green glaze poured on the ceramic.
As it is a solid ceramic, fired in a high temperature in the kiln, it was often used for pots to store water etc. Nowadays you can find Echizen-ware cups, cafe au lait bowls and many more.
