Edo-Komon textile from Japan

Edo-komon or Tokyo some-komon is a texile that is used as a Kimono fabric.

It is characterized by dye using a stencil (paper pattern), which has a very fine pattern in single color. That makes it look as if there is no pattern, just color if you look the fabric from far away.

It is said to have originated by warriors' clothing pattern in Edo period (17th to 19th century).

These days you can find not only textile but also leather goods, coaster and ceramic etc. using this Edo-Komon pattern.
