Hakone wood mosaic

Hakone wood mosaic is a form of marquetry made of woods from Mt. Hakone in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan. There are many kind of woods in Mt. Hakone which makes it possible for the craftsmen to create interesting geometry with various shades of wooden color.

An endless array of charming geometric mosaics is a famous woodcraft to make a box, coasters and so on. Traditional patterns used in Kimonos and Washi (Japanese traditional papercraft) are also seen in the design book of this Hakone wood mosaic work. Some of those iconic patterns include hemp-leaf pattern, ocean wave patterns or fletched arrow patterns.
