Indigo dyed fabric form northern Laos
In Luang Namtha, northern Laos, I encountered an ethnic group called Lanten tribe when I visited the province. They originated from China and has a belief based on Taoism mixed with ancestor and spirit worship.
They wear cotton indigo-dyed clothes on daily basis, which they produce from cotton plants by themselves. Then they spin the cotton, make the indigo dye and dye the cotton fabric, finally make their own clothes.
This handmade textile is now used to make various items such as bags, coasters and clothes (above photo is hand embroidered on the Lanten indigo fabric) for foreigners and sold in some shops.
