Natural dye by ebony

When Lao & Thai people want to use natural dye to make a black/grey/brown color, they often use ebony fruits. The use of ebony to make a dark color has a long traidion in Laos and northern Thailand.

The fruits of ebony are harvested in October to November, which is then used for the whole year. They are preserved in water.

Ebony dyeing process is in cold dyeing just like that of indigo. If you expose the dyed fabric in the sunlight frequently, the color becomes darker and darker.

It needs about 25 times dyeing till it becomes black.
